Dr. Barach is Clinical Professor at Wayne State University School of Medicine, double board-certified in Anesthesiology and Critical care. He trained at the Massachusetts General Hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School, and is a formally trained health services researcher, with advanced post graduate training in quality improvement at Intermountain Healthcare, and medical education from the Harvard Medical School Josiah Macy Program. Paul has experience in strategic planning, operational planning, programming and master planning as well as feasibility studies, facility design for healthcare facilities and enjoys focusing on how operations inform design. He is a Board member of the International Academy for Design and Health and works with the US Facilities Guidelines Institute, and has consulted on and been involved in several hospital design projects around primary and specialist care including designing for surgical care, aged care, cancer care, mental health, complex conditions and chronic diseases. He was Chair of the Research efforts at the Center for Health Design and has advised on healthcare design guidelines to Australian, European and Singaporean Healthcare Agencies. Dr Barach has published extensively (more than 400 total publications, 5 books and 5700 citations) and he has presented at international and national conferences on more than 500 occasions, including over 60 keynote addresses.
